Morning after marriage was a pleasant surprise because i woke up listening to the chirping of birds, greenery all around and cuckoo( Koyal) singing in her beautiful voice from top of the trees.Suddenly i felt that i am in some sage's ashram surrounded by mango orchards, banana trees, bamboo trees, and many type of trees.
women and girls of village started arriving to the house and they were all chatting and giggling to see the groom from city like delhi as i belong to some other planet.
After a while i came to knew that there is no bathroom although they had prepared a toilet for me.So they told me to bath in open where hand pump was installed. Now for a person who never bathed in open it was quite embarrassing. Some how i gathered the courage and took the bath in towel but i went with soaked cloth
to change in my room and all the ladies had a good laugh at my plight.
There are many rituals and ceremonies in mithila marriage which goes on for a year like Madhushravani,Kojagra and Dwiragman. One of the ritual is both bride & bridegroom don't eat salt for four days and they can not go out to any other place.Although i had ignored most of the rituals but i did not eat salt for four days.Since madhubani is a mini town and main market was just 1.5km from our house so i used to eat bread which was available with jam or cucumber inside and fruits. After four days i went back to my village and then back to delhi since i had gone to marry without taking leave from my office and there was some hope that they will not sack me but it was not to be.
My wife did not came with me since she had to appear for her high school exams so it was decided that dwiragman or guana as it is called( where newly wed bride goes to her husband home )will be performed after one year.I was married in 1989 and at that time mobiles were not there and for one year i communicated with my wife through letters which has got obsolete now.

Nice pics Anoop jee, I can understand your situation, as in our village at Bhagalpur too, the things are almost similar. Just for me and my sister, our uncle at village has created a separate toilet, which normally no one else use there.
ReplyDeleteI won't say that I laughed this time as you will become angry, but yes it brought smile on my face :)
Now things are no longer like that and most of the houses are having all the facilities like metro city. Specially after Nitish kumar became the C.M.
DeleteThe condition of roads & electricity has improved in leaps & bounds.
