Gazhals

In my last blog i have told you that Disco songs became very popular in decade of 80's but at the same time Ghazals became a craze of the nation thanks to the policy change of Government to allow the Pakistani singers to come to India and perform. The ghaz

als of Mehndi Hasan ( Considered as king of Ghazals ) and Ghulam Ali became hugely popular specially mehndi hasan song "Ranjish hi sahi" & ghulam ali song "Chupke chupke raat din".
The ghazal  is a poetic form consisting of rhyming couplets and a refrain, with each line sharing the same meter. A ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain.
At the same time husband & wife combination of Jagjit &Chitra singh became very popular in the world and gave number of hit albums. Then following them Pankaj Udhas and Talat Aziz with his soft & silken voice also gave hugely hit ghazals which later on gave them the opportunity to sing in hindi films.

The song" Chitthi aayi hai" of pankaj udhas almost became a national anthem.Another song of his "Chandi jaisa rang he tera" also became very popular while Talat Aziz ghazal in film "Bazzar" Phir chidi baat phoolon ki  & Aap jinke karib hotain hai also became hugely popular. The other popular ghazal singers were Bhupendra,Anup jalota,Manhar udhas etc.
The evergreen versatile singer Aasha Bhosle sung beautiful ghazals in film "UMRAO JAAN" which fetched her the national award.
