Here we must remember there are twelve houses and seven planets(exclude Rahu and Ketu)
And each planet has their own houses, let us see how it is.
Moon and Sun has only one each and respective house.
And remaining ten houses of horoscope are equally possess each two houses ownership as Lords of the houses by rest of the five planets(Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury and Venus)
The lordship of planets are as follows
Moon Lord of Cancer
Sun Lord of Leo
Mars Lord of Scorpio and Aries
Jupiter Lord of Sagittarius and Pisces
Saturn Lord of Capricorn and Aquarius
Mercury Lord of Gemini and Virgo
Venus Lord of Taurus and Libra
Planets and their cheracterstics are of categorised in Two parts.
1). Natural benefics & Natural malefics.
2). Functional benefics, Functional malefics & functional neutrals
Natural benefics
Jupiter, Venus, waxing Moon (close to full moon) and well-associated Mercury are natural benefics.
Natural malefics
Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu, waning (close to new moon) Moon and ill-associated Mercury are natural malefics.
Rahu and Ketu are both indicated benefics and malefics and as well as neutrals also are totally depend on their association, aspects, and placement

Now the Functional benefics and malefics are depend on ascendants
on base of ascendant of different placement of Planets which have some rules and dictated by Maharshi Parasara after going through a proper analysis. Functional benefics and functional malefics and functional neutrals are considered as producing results on final conclusion.
Functional benefics
The lords of trines from ascendant (Kona, houses from lagna i.e.1st,5th and 9th) from ascendant are always functional benefics and note that is totally irrelevant of the planets wether natural benefics or natural malefics, accept Rahu and Ketu
Functional malefics
I). The natural benefic planets, if they become Lords of angle (Kendra means 4th,7th and 10th houses) their power become neutralizes and sometimes slightly produce malefic characters.
The natural malefics own the house of Kendra they loss their malefic characters. But it doesn't mean that they produce all positives or all negativity, now it's all depends on their association, aspects and it's strength of houses and ownership of the houses.
II). If the Lord of ascendant is placed in either 6th, 8th or 12th and it should be it's own house then it's bad effects of that house will never be influenced.
Example ascendant Taurus, Venus is the Lord of 1st house and sixth house Libra and placed Venus in that 6th house, that Venus will never produce any ill effects of sixth house.
And for Aries also same the ascendant Lord Mars is placed in 8th house which is Mars is the owner of that house and there the Mars will never produce any ill effects of 8th house.(this is neither related with functional benefics of Functional malefics)
III). The Lords of 3rd, 6th and 11th are always malefics (Rahu or Ketu is in said house, there will be very beneficial results.)
IV). The lords from ascendant , 2nd, 8th and 12th are functional malefics.
8th Lord is more powerful in producing very bitter results.
The 8th Lord is connected with 3rd, 6th and 11th Lords are houses, it become more and more malefic.
And some times the Lords of 2nd, 8th and 12th are producing their results according to their other association and aspects. In sense how we defined by Kendra Lords. Above all 8th Lord will produce quickly the negativity as well as in some conditions it may not effect it's negativity due to association with other planets. Example for Leo ascendant the Jupiter is the Lord of 5th and 8th here it become benefic.
A functional malefic placed in the 3rd house and dusthanas (6th, 8th and 12thhouses) brings good results, by spoiling the significations of the bad houses.
8th house lordship does not effect on planets of moon and sun.
Now let's speak about Rahu and Ketu
The great sage varhamihira nothing said about Rahu and Ketu.
About Rahu and Ketu the sages were said in different interpretations, but parasara very clearly said as following.
Rahu and Ketu they have no houses as they are shadows but it's interpretation are depend on their association and placement of houses for example if Rahu is association with trine Lord it become there very powerful by producing all benefits for that particular house.
Rahu or Ketu if they individually occupied in 3rd, 6th or 11th houses also produce very good results and become very powerful over there.
Also if Rahu and Ketu occupied in kendras it reduce it's ill effect.
YOGAKARAKA
Planet owning a quadrant and a trine becomes a yogakaraka (KENDRA AND KONADHI PATHI) (excellent planet).
The list of yogakarakas, functional benefics, functional neutrals and functional malefics for each lagna or ascendant is given in Tabular form.
Moon is not listed for movable rashis, because his functional nature depends on whether he is waxing or waning. Waxing Moon is a natural benefic and he becomes a functional malefic with quadrant ownership. Waning Moon, on the other hand, is a natural malefic and quadrant ownership makes him functionally neutral.
Remember, Natural benefics can become functional malefics and natural malefics can become functional benefics.

The twelve houses, planets, stars and their characters and functions, and all will be considered as inherent nature of whole life.
