In our ancient scriptures various types of donations are mentioned so that you can increase power of planets badly placed in your astrological charts or to improve your present life or by giving donation and doing charity work you can improve your next life because Hindu philosophy is based on karmic cycle.So there are various types of donations are prescribed which are called "MAHADAAN" in Hindi.
1.ORGAN OR BLOOD DONATION: These donation are called greatest of donation because you are saving someones life by giving part of your body and blood is also part of your body.Some people donate their entire body after death for medical research so it can benefit the entire human civilization.
2.DONATING KNOWLEDGE : Spreading knowledge without any monetary benefits which is called "VIDYADAAN" in Hindi is considered one of the best donations because it will pass on from generation to generations.
3.GIVING DAUGHTER TO A STRANGER : It is called "KANYADAAN" in Hindi and it is considered one of the greatest form of donation because your daughter is also part of your body & soul and you are giving her away for the sake of human race to continue to someone who is complete stranger to you.
4.GIVING FOOD TO THE NEEDY : Feeding poor & needy which is called "ANNDAAN" in Hindi is considered one of the greatest of donations and to improve your bad planet in the kundli or your astrological chart you can donate food items related to that particular planet which should be equal to your body weight.It is called "TULA DAAN" in Hindi.
5.DONATION OF LAND : Donation of land for charity purpose such as building of school,college,hospitals,temples or any work which helps the society in large numbers is on of the best type of donations.
6.FREE DRINKING WATER : Providing free drinking water by putting up taps or hand pumps on the roadside,building ponds & wells for the needy is again one of the finest form of donation prescribed in scriptures.
7.DONATION OF MONEY : If you have surplus money then you should donate some part of it for social causes like marriage of daughters of poor & needy or educating some poor child or for building old age homes,building home for blinds etc.
8.DONATION OF LABOR : If you don't have Money,Land to spare you can help in social causes by giving your time & labor it is called "SHRAMDAAN" in Hindi.
